COBRA 69 - 6 Welshpool
COBRA sealed their position in the top 3 of the league with an emphatic derby win over Welshpool.
In near perfect conditions COBRA ran in 8 first half tries, to amass a 52-0 lead at the break. The COBRA forwards were in the ascendency providing quality ball for the backs to run at an overworked Welshpool defence. COBRA's outside backs were the main beneficiaries as they broke the Welshpool line seemingly at will with Centre Sion Wyn Williams grabbing a brace of tries and wings Matt Jones and Ifan Evans scored a try each. COBRA's half back pairing , Iwan Vaughan and Rhodri Davies both contributed with a try and back rowers Barry Jones and Aled Davies scored tries to get the forwards in on the act. Full back Geraint Williams kicked 6 conversions.
The second half was a disjointed affair as injuries forced Welshpool to elect for uncontested scrums which inevitably took some of the ferocity from the contest. COBRA scored 3 more tries as Sion Wyn Williams completed his hat trick, Ifan Evans grabbed a second and replacement prop Bryn Edwards sprinted 40 metres to score. Geraint Williams added a seventh conversion to end with a personal tally of 14 points. Outside half Simon Jones kicked 2 penalties in response for Welshpool.

GLAMORGAN WANDERERS 10 -25 RGC1404
This was a game of three parts. In the first 20 minutes RGC1404 used the width of a pitch which needed a late inspection to pass it fit for play after a frost the previous evening. With good ball retention and quick hands from centre Jack Moorhouse, Ioan Davies ran in the first try on the left, leaving Stephen Woodward an easy conversion.
The middle 40 went to the Wanderers, some impressive scrummaging took the score to 10-7 with a pushover try. Down to 14 men after lock Luke Cudmore was yellow carded, RGC1404 absorbed considerable pressure. By maintaining their defensive shape and executing first up tackles, Clive Griffiths' charges kept the home team out. RGC 1404 drew level through a penalty and the game remained tied until flanker Chauncey O'Toole, one of an effective backrow trio with Joe Palmer and Jebb Sinclair, went over for a try to make the score 15-10.
The last 20 went to RGC1404. Late in the game replacement 10 Mathew Parry score in the left corner after considerable pressure from the RGC pack. Five minutes later, in the dying moments of the game it was Parry again who opened up the defence with an excellent break which took him to within 5 metres of the line, With a last shimmy in front of the full back, he popped the ball to Moorhouse and with Ioan Davies in support the try was certain.
It was an encouraging win for RG1404 just 18 days into this project. It was also a good rugby game which entertained a small crowd on a bitterly cold Ely afternoon.

Watchurst to lead Wales Under 20 side against England
Wales Under 20 head coach Phil Davies has named Dragons academy prop Dan Watchurst and Ospreys outside half Matthew Jarvis as his captain and vice captain for the first two games of his side's Under 20 Six Nations campaign, against England and Scotland.
Davies has named an experienced side to face England at Kingsholm on Friday night (7.45pm), with eleven of the starting fifteen having played in last season's Under 20 side. In the forwards, the front row of Simon Gardiner, Rhys Williams and captain Watchurst all featured last term, along with lock James King and flankers James Thomas and Josh Navidi. Pontypridd and Blues academy lock Macauley Cook and Pontypool no 8 Morgan Allen, son of former Newbridge, Newport and Wales lock Andy, are the only two new caps in the starting pack.
Cardiff centre Owen Williams and Glamorgan Wanderers full back Dan Fish are the only two uncapped players in the backline, with half backs Rhys Downes and vice captain Matthew Jarvis having played at this level last season along with centre Scott Williams and wings James Loxton and Kristian Phillips, currently a member of Warren Gatland's RBS 6 Nations squad.
Davies said, "We're pleased with the strength in depth we are starting to create within the group. The players involved with the squad last season have come on in leaps and strides and those joining us from last year's Under 18 group are really pushing for places. We also have some exciting new players who haven't been involved in international pathway rugby before such as full back Dan Fish, and others such as Morgan Allen who was on the fringes of the squad last season but has made huge progress.
"The international player pathway programme, which includes the Wales Under 20 set-up, aims to support the development work being carried out within the Regional academies and led by the WRU Regional Performance Managers. There is a high level of cooperation between the Regions, the Premiership clubs and us as a Wales Under 20 management team and we hope to add an extra element to these players' games which will benefit their clubs and Regions.
"The players selected the leaders in the squad, with Dan Watchurst and Matthew Jarvis coming from that group of players. Dan is a natural captain, similar in leadership style to Scott Andrews last season and commands the respect of his peers. He and Matthew will lead the side for the first two games of the campaign, with Rhys Williams, Josh Navidi, James King, James Thomas, Rhys Downes and Kristian Phillips the other members of the leadership group.
"England is a tough challenge for the opening weekend of games, they are a tremendous side full of Guinness Premiership talent, but it's a challenge I believe our players will be ready for and I'm looking forward to seeing them perform as a unit.

RGC 1404 Under 17s got their year off to the best possible start as they edged their Yorkshire counterparts 13-7 in an enthralling contest that kept a large crowd at Bangor Rugby Club in suspense right up until the final whistle.
Although the young North Walians started off brightly, it was the heavier Yorkshire pack who soon began to take control and from a lineout close to the RGC line their scrum-half forced his way over to give the visitors a 5-0 lead. A lead that was almost immediately extended by another 2 points when their fly-half kicked the conversion from close to the touch-line. When a few minutes later the Yorkshiremen had another attacking lineout in a similar position it seemed almost certain that they would score again,however gallant defence from the home pack forced a turnover and both allowed the ball to be cleared and for the RGC Team to begin to gain some self-belief that they could compete.
As their confidence rose so they began to create chances for themselves and shortly befoe half-term Alex Schwarz knocked over a penalty to reduce the deficit to just 4 points. This deficit was overturned 5 minutes into the second-half when Jac Williams following up a kick he himself charged down was able to run in from 30 metres out. Again Schwarz showed great composure with the boot to add the extras, and when soon after he added another penalty the RGC lead was up to six.
This was the cue for Yorkshire to ring the changes and as the clock wound down so they began to throw the ball round more and more and the RGC defence became more and more desperate as they sought to hang on,but hang on they did and as the final whistle was blown one could almost hear the sense of relief from both players and spectators alike.

Bethesda travelled to Wrexham on Saturday having to make late changes due to Rygbi Gogledd Cymru drafting Mathew Parry into their squad the incident did not go down well with Coach Will Sanderson because there was no communication with the club about his release. Bethesda had to move Gareth Wyn to 9 and move Gareth Edwards to 10 and flanker Iwan Williams moving to the wing, and it was Iwan Williams that broke the deadlock after a flowing move that started deep in their own half to score out wide. Hooker Seven Eames claimed the second after a steal in the line out he gathered the lose ball to claim a touch down. Bethesda knew they had to claim a bonus point to keep pressure on Bala for top spot in the first half of the league and easy penalty attempts were ignored to push for 4 try's. . Second half still two tries from their goal a head injury to a Wrexham player caused a 20 minute delay and from the restart flanker Arwyn Grifiths cruised home with an excellent try. The home side came back with a dubious penalty try Referee Ieuan Williams claimed that Bethesda put on a defensive wheel on the scrum. Try converted and soon after increased their points to 10 with a penalty kick. With the score finely poised at 10-15 winning became the most important thing. Bethesda took control of the game for the last 20 minutes but it was a very stop start and tempers becoming frayed. Top scorer Dylan Hughes got the most important try of the day after prolonged pressure to touch down to the relief of the team and the visiting supporters. Add a commentRecommend CAERNARFON took advantage of league leaders Nant Conwy’s game at Blaenau Ffestiniog having been postponed to move to the top of the Division One (North) league table with a 21-13 win at Pwllheli.
The visitors ran in three tries – one each for flanker Andrew Williams, full back Dylan Parry and outside half Kelfyn Morris, who also kicked a penalty and two conversions.
The home side managed touchdowns from wing Gareth Wright and second row Huw Williams, and a penalty by outside half Dylan Llyr.
Mold’s championship hopes took a knock as they went down by 21-20 at Ruthin, the home side crossing for tries by No 8 Mark Lloyd and full back Jon Evans, one of which was converted by wing Will Davies who also added two penalties. The scoring was completed with a penalty from outside-half James Morris.
Hooker Liam Gill and wing Tom Webb managed tries for Mold with centre Dan Edmunds adding the goal kicks.
Llandudno produced a spirited second half fightback at Colwyn Bay having trailed by 13-3 at the interval. They looked to have won the game when centre Rhodri Carlton Jones kicked an injury-time penalty to add to his earlier successes with the boot of two penalties and a conversion of a try from wing Lloyd Griffiths. But the Bay had the final say when replacement centre Adam Hughes kicked a penalty right at the death to gain a 16-16 draw.
In the first half, wing Martin Cormack scored a try which was converted by centre Tom Duffy, who also kicked a brace of penalties.
Llangefni returned to winning ways at home with a 28-3 home win over Denbigh with outside half Arwel Roberts kicking three penalties and two conversions. The tries coming from wings Rhodri Gray, Will Owen and a penalty try.
