Ar brynhawn sych , tir caled a gêm gynghrair olaf Nant, roedd Nant angen ennill gyda phwynt bonws i ddod yn bencampwyr Adran 1 am yr ail flwyddyn yn olynol. Ar wahân i’r 5 munud cyntaf roedd y tîm mewn rheolaeth lwyr. Gwthiwyd pac Rhuthun yn ôl tros eu llinell gais ar ôl 5 munud gyda Carwyn yn tirio. Trosodd Llywarch y cyntaf o’i 6 trosiad ardderchog drwy’r gêm.
Roedd Nant yn sgorio’n rheolaidd gyda’r rhif 5, Dewi yn brwydro’i ffordd i dirio tros y llinell chwarter ffordd drwy’r gêm. Pum munud cyn y chwiban hanner torrodd Llywarch drwy amddiffyn Rhuthun yn gelfydd a sgorio ger y pyst. Sgôr o 21 - 0 ar yr hanner felly gyda stori fod Caernarfon wedi sgorio pedwar cais yn eu hanner cyntaf hwy.
Munud yn unig ar ôl ail gychwyn tynnwyd amddiffyn Rhuthun i’r ochr a thasg hawdd oedd i Ifan garlamu trosodd ar y chwith i ennill y pwynt bonws angenrheidiol i Nant. Cic wych o’r asgell gan Llywarch y tro hwn. Deng munud wedyn, aeth Rhys trosodd ar yr asgell dde a’r ymdrech hon oedd unig fethiant Llywarch drwy’r prynhawn. Grant yn rhuthro drwodd o’r cefn wedyn gyda 10 munud yn weddill a dau funud o’r ail gychwyn, Osian yn sgorio o fôn y sgrym.
Ymlaciodd Nant rhywfaint gyda’r bencampwriaeth yn ddiogel a chwarae teg i’r tîm cartref, buont yn brwydro tan y diwedd a bu i Clwyd Williams sgorio yn y gornel gyda symudiad olaf y gêm ar ôl 44 munud.
Bloedd enfawr ar y chwib olaf i ddathlu a llongyfarchiadau mawr i’r holl garfan, i’r hyfforddwyr a phawb a fu’n ymwneud a’r llwyddiant. Tymor i’w gofio yn wir.
NORTH WALES RUGBY CHAMPIONS
On a dry afternoon, a hard surface and Nant’s last league match of the season, Nant required a bonus point victory to become the division 1 North Champions for the second year in succession. Apart from the first 5 minutes, the visitors were in complete control. After 7 minutes, the Ruthin pack were pushed back over their own try line and Carwyn touched down. Llywarch converted the first of his six very successful conversion attempts.
Nat then went on to score at regular intervals with the no.5, Dewi, powering through the defence to touch down a quarter of the way through the match. Five minutes before the half time whistle, Llywarch broke clinically through the Ruthin defence and scored by the posts. A score of 21 – 0 at half time then when the news arrived from Caernarfon that they had scored four tries during the first half there.
Exactly a minute into the second half and the bonus point arrived when Ifan scored on the left wing when the defence had been drawn to the right wing. An excellent conversion this time. Ten minutes later, Rhys scored over on the right wing and this turned out to be Llywrach’s only missed conversion. Grant then did his usual run at speed from the back and completed a flowing move with a try with 10 minutes left. Two minutes after the re-start, Osian wriggled his way over from the base of a scrum to touch down.
Nant relaxed a bit then with the Championship won and to the home team’s credit they continued to play well. They were awarded a consolation try, scored by Clwyd Williams, with the last move of the match and season after 44 minutes play.
A huge roar could be heard from a distance at the final whistle and congratulations are sent to all players in the Nant squad, the hard working Coaches and all who have been involved in the success. A Season to remember indeed!
