Clwb Rygbi Nant Conwy
Sadwrn / Saturday 20.02.10 BrynMawr 27 v Nant Conwy 15
Plat Swalec Plate
Sgorwyr Nant:
Ceisiau / Tries: Rhys Roberts, Gareth Jones
Trosi / Conversion: Llywarch ap Myrddin
Cosb / Penalty: Llywarch ap Myrddin
Ar ôl cryn bryder a fuasai’r gêm yn cael ei chwarae o gwbl oherwydd y tywydd drwg, cytunodd Clwb Rygbi Crichowell i’r ornest fynd yn ei blaen.
Cic gosb gan Llywarch ar ôl 3 munud oedd y sgôr gyntaf. Yna sgoriodd yr asgellwr Rhys gais ar yr asgell dde ond nis troswyd. Ar ôl 22 munud gwthiodd y pac drosodd o sgrym 5 a thiriodd y bachwr, Gareth. Trosiad gan Llywarch ac felly, Nant 0 -15 ar y blaen.
Ychydig cyn yr hanner, aeth Nant i lawr i 14 dyn oherwydd damwain dechnegol mewn sgarmes. Manteisiodd Bryn Mawr ar hyn trwy gicio cic gosb o’r digwyddiad a sgorio dau gais a throsi un yn ystod y 10 munud tyngedfennol. Y sgôr yn gyfartal ar ddechrau’r ail hanner felly.
Gem agos iawn oedd hi am y gweddill ond curwyd Nant gan ddau symudiad wedi’i baratoi ar y maes ymarfer. Sgoriwyd dau gais ac un trosiad yn y 10 munud olaf i’r tîm o Adran 2 y Dwyrain. Bydd Nant yn dysgu o hyn o bosibl gan ddefnyddio’r tactegau ‘newydd’ a bod yn barod amdanynt yn y dyfodol. Llongyfarchwyd tîm Nant gan Swyddogion y Clwb o’r De ac nid oedd ganddynt unrhyw amheuaeth y buasai Nant yn dal eu tir yn llwyddiannus yn eu cynghrair hwy.
Gobeithia Nant chwarae ail gymal Cwpan Gogledd Cymru gartref yn erbyn Llangefni dydd Sadwrn nesaf gyda’r gic gyntaf am 2.00 o’r gloch.
After much consideration whether the match would be played at all due to the bad weather Crickhowell Rugby Club were kind enough to loan the use of its pitch for the game.
A penalty kick after 3 minutes by Llywarch opened the scoring. Then, Rhys, the right winger scored an unconverted try in the right corner. After 22 minutes play, Nant gained a scrum 5; the pack pushed over the line and hooker, Gareth Jones touched down for a try that was converted by Llywarch. Nant ending the first quarter being 0 – 15 ahead.
Just before half time, Nant were reduced to 14 men due to a technical fault at a ruck. BrynMawr scored from the resultant penalty and indeed scored two tries with one being converted during this 10 minute ‘yellow card’ period to level the scores.
The play for the rest of the game was fairly even but Nant were outdone by two ‘training pitch’ prepared moves that they had not come across before. The moves led to two further tries with one converted for BrynMawr, the team from the Division 2 East. Possibly, Nant will learn from this experience and preapre for such moves in future and use those themselves. Nant’s team were praised and congratulated by the Officials of the South East side and they were of the opinion that Nant Conwy would ‘hold their own’ successfully in their league.
Nant’s next opponents, hopefully, willl be Llangefni at home (kick off 2.00 p.m.) next Saturday. This match will be the second leg of the North Wales Cup competition.
