22.11.09 Ospreys U18 v Gogledd Cymru U18 Will Morcombe Reports

Ospreys Under 18 34 Gogledd Cymru Under 18 0

At a wet and windy Llandarcy, both sides strived hard to put on an entertaining show for those spectators who braved the blustery conditions, and although the Ospreys ran out convincing winners, the Gogledd Cymru side contributed fully throughout. This in spite of falling 12 points behind in as many minutes when first Eli Walker powered his way over from 30 metres out and then the Ospreys scrum-half ran half the length of the field to outpace the North Walian cover defence.

At this point it would have been all too easy for the visitors heads to drop, but to their credit the opposite was the case as their pack, and in particular Chris Holmes,JJ Williams and Gareth Morgan started to compete with their South Walian counterparts, with some measure of parity being established at the breakdowns, and although the Ospreys added a further try from Walker just before half-time this combativeness was maintained for the rest of the game.

Unfortunately what possession that the pack did gain was nearly all very slow allowing the well-organised Ospreys defence to re-organise and comfortably stifle out any attacking threat that they may have posed. They on the other hand continued to look dangerous whenever they did have possession allowing a further 3 tries to be scored.

Gogledd Cymru Under 18s next game is at home to Cardiff Blues on 13th December at Colwyn Bay RFC. KO 2pm
